BlueCarp, also known as David K. Williams, Jr./Dave Williams/D.K. Williams/ and Woodrow Williams, made an appearance on Mike Zinna's radio show tonight.

Check it out here.

I was appearing in my capacity as Legislative Director of the Libertarian Party of Colorado. State Chair Travis Nick was also a guest.

Here's more on Zinna.

The Word "Outrage" Is Used Far Too Often

This is not one of those times.

Read this 10th Circuit Court of Appeals case.

As a former criminal defense attorney, I know this type of thing does not happen everyday. But it happens, and most of the time no one ever hears about it.

I Had No Idea

I read that Prince was going to headline the Coachella Music Festival, so I did a Google search to find out more.

I found out that

"Swervedriver will kick off its reunion tour with a newly confirmed booking on the final day of this month's Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival."

Wow. I had no idea that Swervedriver had reunited. In fact, I had no idea they had broken up. Come to think of it, I did not know they existed at all.

Gorging on Power

Randall Hoven, of the American Thinker, has a nice article on how big the government is.

Check it out.

Hoven's conclusion, however, is absurd. He blames Democrats and lets Republicans off the hook. The two major parties are like fat kids, gorging. One fat kid is gorging on cake, the other on cookies. To blame only one for emptying out the bakery is wrong.

Reject the two party system.

Maybe They Should Have Remade the Sonny & Cher Song

According to Rolling Stone online, Pharrell Williams produced some of the tracks on Madonna's new album, including the song "Beat Goes On."

It is not a remake of the Sonny and Cher song.

What is it? Well, it features Kanye West and, according to Pharrell "it has a Megadeth-dance feel."

Nothing says "dance" like Megadeth I always say.

Misremembring Hoops History

Whenever North Carolina's national basketball championships are mentioned, someone brings up Michigan's Chris Webber and his time out technical in 1993 as if Michigan would have won the game but for that mistake.

Most recently, J.A. Adande brought it up in an article on Denver Nugget head coach (and Carolina alum) George Karl.

He wrote:

For all his talent at North Carolina, [Dean] Smith won "only" two championships. And he won them thanks in part to two of the biggest blunders in NCAA history: [Georgetown's] Fred Brown's pass in 1982 and Chris Webber's timeout in 1993.

In both cases, Carolina was ahead at the end of the game. The opposition had to score on its last possession, or they would have lost.

To assume either Michigan or Georgetown would have won but for their mistake is a huge assumption.

In Webbers' case, it's absolutely ridiculous. Webber never would have had a chance to call the timeout he didn't have if the refs had called an obvious walking violation on him seconds before. The game should have ended with a traveling violation. But it didn't.

Webber then found himself in a double team, trapped in the corner of the court. What was he going to do? Time was running out. He couldn't dribble. He couldn't shoot. He couldn't pass. The time out was a bad choice, but he had no good ones.  Under what possible scenario could something good have happened for Michigan with Webber stuck in the corner with time running out?

Even without the time out, things were looking really good for the Heels.

NCAA Championship Game

As the game between Memphis and Kansas went into overtime, television analyst Billy Packer said "Kansas knows how to play in overtime, they played a triple overtime game for the championship in 1957."

What?

Not only were the Kansas players not born in 1957, neither were their parents.

If that alone doesn't make the statement a candidate for Dumbest Ever, KU lost that game in 1957.

Tar Heels

Now that I have mostly recovered from the Carolina debacle Saturday night, I can say that the Heels' performance was uglier than Rosie O'Donnell first thing in the morning.

Lodo's Bar and Grill

I make no secret of my love for Lodo's Bar and Grill downtown.

The management has taken care of the Denver Carolina Club since before I moved out here, and for the past six years -since I've been here - they have gone out of their way to make us comfortable.

On one of my recent, I had their Buffalo Wings again. They are always good-sized, cooked well, without breading, and hot. They are not as hot as the ones I had recently at Spill, but they are very good and among the best in town. Lodos, unlike Spill, does offer blue cheese dressing, an absolute necessity in my opinion.

The blue cheese is always excellent, with chunks of blue cheese in the dressing. They are garnished with both celery and carrots. I usually eat the carrots, but no one buys wings for the vegetables on the plat.

I also had the Cobb salad recently. It is served with juicy grilled chicken and is one of my new favorites on their menu. Of course, I had the blue cheese dressing with it, on the side.

The beer taps are not quite as cold as I think they should be, but it is only a quibble.

If you haven't been to Lodo's downtown recently, get down there and check it out. They have recently remodeled, and the interior is bigger and more spacious with high definition televisions everywhere.

The newly expanded roof top patio is almost three times as large as before, and is unquestionably the best patio in the Denver metro area. The views of Coors Field, downtown Denver and the mountains are beautiful.

Lodo's original location remains my favorite sports bar in Denver, with the best bar food in town.

Spill Lounge - a nice surprise

A friend of mine was celebrating his 30th birthday at a place I would not ordinarily frequent.

Spill Lounge is a place the "beautiful people" hang out. I use the term "beautiful people" in an absolutely derogatory way.

The party started early enough that I could avoid a crowd of "beautiful people." I could easily avoid the few that got out early, but the one buff guy in a sleeveless t-shirt and overly gelled hair was humorous. His shirt should have read "Yes, I'm short, but look at my arms!"

Napolean complex anyone?

Anyway, I was absolutely shocked to discover that this place with big screen televisions showing hip hop videos has some of the best Buffalo wings in town. And I've eaten a lot of Buffalo Wings.

The wings were a good size, fried without batter (any place that uses batter is worthless), and covered in a spicy sauce that caught me by surprise.

Most places that advertise "hot" wings offer only "tepid" ones. Not Spill. These were great.

My only quibble was that they do not offer blue cheese dressing. If they did, I would make it a point of returning. I might, any way, if i can smuggle some dressing in the front door.

The only option they offer is Ranch Dressing, and Ranch is for kids. Hot wings and blue cheese is the dinner of men. Hot wings and Ranch is like fine wine and saltines.

I tried some of Spill's nachos. It is hard to make nachos spectacular, and Spill did not. I'd eat them again. Hey, they are Nachos, not steak tartare.

The bottled Bud Select was appropriatley cold. The beer with 3 grams of carbs was drinkable, but if I was skinny and not counting carbs I'd pick something else.

I'd go back, but only during the early hours before the place got crowded with girls in mini-skirts and guys in muscle shirts.

Like my friend Nate Kreckman said about the bars around Larimer Square, "I can't go out in those places. I always end up in a fight with a guy in a striped shirt and frosted tips."

Get there before the guys with bleached hair and expensive haircuts, order some wings, and bring your own blue cheese dresssing.

Braun's Bar & Grill

After a long day on the radio at Mile High Sports during the Rockies' home opener, I found myself grabbing dinner at about 9 p.m. at Braun's Bar & Grill. I had to park there since it was the closest place I could find in the morning when I had to park.

Some places close to Coors Field where charging $60 for a parking spot. A fool and his money are soon parted, and the parking lot attendant is there to faciliate the process.

A parking lot attendant only got $10 from me, and I could use the walk anyway.

Braun's is located in the Pepsi Center parking lot, and is usually only open during events at the venue. Last Friday, when I was there well after the Rockies got smoked by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the ArenaFootball Colorado Crush were playing. The restaurant was almost completely empty. Three other guys were at the bar, and one guy was in the dining room that I could see.

Since the Crush game was in progress, the pre-game crowd was gone and the post-game crowd had yet to arrive. I enjoyed the quiet room.

I ordered the "Cattleman's Salad" and a beer. The assistant manager behind the Bar, Kelley E., was very cordial and pleasant. She kindly turned the big screen behind the bar from some modeling show to an NBA game. Thanks, Kelley!

The beer was cold, and I like that. Too many places keep their taps slightly below room temperature. This ain't England. I like my beer ice cold and translucent. If I can't see through it, I aint' drinkin' it. I am American, and I make no apologies for drinking domestic light beer. It is what I like, and I have no pretensions. (About beer, anyway).

The menu described my salad as "field greens tossed in our house Blue cheese balsamic dressing and topped with marinated flank skewers, cheddar, baby peas, spicy candied walnuts, carrots tomato and cucumbers."

I jumped into a flank skewer first, It was tender and pleasant. The marinade was not overwhelming and not too sweet. The four skewers were off to the side of the plate, and almost a side dish.

The "blue cheese balsamic dressing" was more balsamic than blue cheese, and it complemented the salad well.

The peas were firm and tasty. The walnuts were more candied than spicy, and added a nice contrast to the balsamic dressing.

My only quibble is that it came with large croutons. These Carbolicious items were not listed in the menu description, and I would have asked to have them left off if they had been. It was certainly no big deal, but I hate wasting food and I had collected a pile of croutons on my plate when I was finished.

It turns out Kelly is from Virginia, and attended James Madison University. It is always nice to meet a fellow southerner, especially from a state neighboring my adopted North Carolina.

Brauns is a fine place for a drink and some decent bar food before walking over to Pepsi Center.
